Personal Trainer from Liverpool Reveals the Most Common Mistakes Committed By Fitness Enthusiasts:

10th September 2010

Are your workout sessions giving you more injuries than results? Does your exercise routine leave you seething in unbearable pain for a considerably long time? If yes, it’s time to have a recheck on your exercise regime. Muscle stiffness or muscle soreness, especially at the start of a new exercise regime is normal. However, if the pain simply refuses to subside, it’s time for you to find out where you are going wrong. Making mistakes is a part of human nature but you’ve got to understand where you have made them, and correct them immediately.

As a Personal Trainer in Liverpool, I- John Wright- would like to share some of the most common mistakes people commit in their pursuit of fitness:

  1. There is simply no plan:

Nearly all beginners in the gym commit the mistake of not having a proper workout plan. They start lifting heavy weights randomly and exercise till they drop. Unfortunately not many of them know that doing this can prove more dangerous than fruitful. The best way to avoid this mistake and lower the chances of injuries is to develop a suitable exercise program. The first step is to assess your health and fitness level and set a well-defined goal for you. Liverpool Personal Trainers like me can design the most appropriate exercise regime for you. You can assess yourself and monitor your progress by creating and maintaining a diet and workout journal, where you constantly evaluate yourself and write down the results.

  1. Neglecting the diet:

The next big mistake that I have observed many people commit is that they don’t bother about the food they eat. In my years as a personal trainer in Liverpool, I have seen many fitness enthusiasts focussing all their attention on the exercise regime and completely ignoring their diet. Most newcomers think that just pumping iron will give them the result that they planned for. Many of them just sweat it out and give themselves completely in the gym, and end up eating uncontrollably once they are at home. This is very counter-productive for their entire fitness plan and they end up getting dejected with no results.

If you are not following a diet that compliments and supports your workout then it is time you incorporated one into your lifestyle. Stay away from the bad fats- hydrogenated and trans -fatty acid. Always go for foodstuffs that are high on slow burning carbohydrates, protein and good fat- mono-unsaturated fats, fish or flax seed oil and olive oil.

Keep a note of the amount of calories you consume and burn during the day. As a Total Body Personal Trainer in Liverpool, I would recommend you to follow a simple thumb-rule to ensure that you consume the right amount of calories:

  • If your aim is losing weight, consume 1400 quality calories per day aiming to consume a minimum of 120g of protein.
  • If you aim is gaining muscle, consume 2500-3500 of quality calories per day making sure you consume at least 1.5g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.

Supplements can help you in your dietary needs, but you need to know what to use and when. For this, you can seek the guidance of a Personal Trainer.

  1. Exercising selected muscle groups and avoiding the weak areas:

This is the most common mistake which I have come across as a Liverpool Personal Trainer. Overzealous beginners will immediately start working on their show-muscles like chest and biceps. In doing so, they tend to completely ignore other body parts like their legs. This is an entirely wrong approach to attaining fitness. The only way to be completely fit is to train for a holistic and functional balance of your whole body. A Total Body Liverpool Personal Trainer will be your best guide in advising you which exercises you need to perform and when.
